Overview

Acoustics & Sound For Public Spaces in Architecture

Both acoustics and sound system in public spaces play vital roles in ensuring safe and quality environment for the society. Relying on each other, both systems have to be properly engineered from design stage to prevent dangerous hazards and costly repairs if done later.

In BAY10, Mr Daniel explained about Bosch public address systems and the state-of-the-art technology that makes the system more practical and economical. Digitalisation of public address system nowadays allowed more integration with other systems such as the emergency alarms, automated announcements, and background music, among others. The evacuation system can also be sequenced to prevent stampedes when evacuating multi storey/zoned buildings.

Mr Marco on the other hand, shared SoundPLAN’s high profile work at Stuttgart, German, designing the acoustics and noise control for a new residential area. The whole architectural design process took about 10 years, and highly challenging from the acoustical point of view. Different kind of acoustical barriers, windows and other countermeasures were needed in solving the noise issues. That includes using taller buildings as outer barriers protecting the inner area of the development.

Both speakers sparked eye-opening awareness in regards to the establishment of technology and implementation of acoustic design in upgrading the everyday life quality of the citizens.
